25 279 (D7629)
A Look Back. Part II

25143 paired with 25153 at Wolverhampton on Saturday 15th August 1981. 143 was the last class member to run on 279's current bogies as D5293. The bogies were originally fitted to D7527 which went on to become 25177.

25261 is seen on the asbestos pit at Derby Locomotive Works on 27th July 1982. The locomotive had been withdrawn in January of the previous year. Built as D7611 entering service in April 1966 at Eastfield depot in Glasgow the locomotive ran with 25279's current main generator. Just to complicate things the bodyside numbers on 261 were self adhesive and were applied during the final overhaul at Crewe works in 1975/6!

Concluding our look at things technical with a view of 25287 paired with 25268 at Aberystwyth on Saturday 30th June 1984. As D7637 25287 received the main generator from 25261. Eventually the main generator was split from it's power unit and fitted to VA958 the combination then going into 25315. Ultimately the whole power unit ended up in 25279.

Preservation for 25279 began at the Llangollen Railway where this view at Berwyn was taken on 24th October 1993.
